VIDEO: Spa day surprise for Julie

By John Bach

Our family never met Karen Wellington, but the power of her legacy showed up on our doorstep this afternoon. Karen lost her battle in 2007 after a 10-year fight with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She was a Cincinnati mom of two, a wife, a daughter and friend to so many.

“Karen set an extraordinary example for all of her friends and family as someone who was courageous and victorious in overcoming obstacles with tenacity, faith, kindness and laughter,” according to the nonprofit named after her. The Karen Wellington Foundation has now helped more than 1,000 breast cancer survivors around the country with dream vacations, spa days and more.

KWF volunteer and breast cancer survivor Lori Falke delivered an awesome spa day package to Julie today. She also spent an hour encouraging her.

We are thankful for KWF and all the volunteers as well as the vision of Karen’s husband, Kent Wellington, and her children, Angeline and Robby, who make their Mom proud daily by giving back to others.

Karen Wellington loved to paint. This is one of her paintings, which appears inside the spa box.
